Still in France, Leconte de Lisle will provide a translation of the Odyssey in 1861. It is as close as possible to the original text, but it shows a sophisticated vision of heroes. As far as this translator is concerned, I came across a forum where people discuss the quality of the translation. Indeed, one Internet user explains that he was surprised by this translation because the writer tries to get as close as possible to the original work and even to note certain words in the Greek manner, such as Ulysses who is called “Odysseus” in this French translation.
