About

This project was carried out as part of the Rare Book and Digital Humanities Master’s programme at the University of Besançon.

The choice to do a project related to the Odyssey is linked to my passion for Greek mythology. During my studies I was able to complete a degree in Classics, and it seemed obvious to extend this passion during the master’s degree.
It was therefore necessary to group together, here in a subjective way, the translators who seem to me the most important but also the most interesting in relation to the Odyssey. Indeed, the aim of this project is not to list all the translations of the Odyssey, as there are far too many, but to highlight the translations that have been premiered in certain countries, as well as to highlight those that have had the greatest impact on the work.

Then, I had the chance to make a video related to the master on a book by Jean de Sponde that can be found on the website.
I would also like to thank the National Library of Iceland, where I was able to go for four months to do an internship for the second year of the master. I was able to find there three manuscripts which are the first translations of the Odyssey into Icelandic.

Structurae.net

I was able to find some translations freely digitised and available on the internet, which can also be found on the website.
To finish this project, the creation of the database was a very interesting work, and one can observe through it the influence of such a major work as this.
