First of all, it seems that the title is: versio yfir Homerum. As we said before, this is the first Icelandic translation of the Odyssey. However, it is incomplete. Indeed, from my analysis I noticed that only a few songs were available in the book, songs 8 to 12. From the date on the title page, it seems that the translation took place in 1823 and 1824. Then the author is Sv. Egilsen, and all I could find out about him by asking the different members of the library is that he was a teacher of Greek and that he was a very good translator. As we can see, it’s a manuscript book and the ink look in a very good shape, it is easy to read and I think even more for an Icelandic.
The problem of the manuscript might be the size of sentences. We can observe on some pages that the size is different, sometimes we have a lot of space on the pages and sometimes it become very difficult to read. In general, the state of the manuscript is good. We can also see that the pages are a bit turn-down because of time, maybe humidity and as I could see the biding looks too short to cover all pages properly. On the margins, we have numeration of the verses, but except that there is no much to say because there are no footnotes or index, we can only see a title page at the beginning, for the 10th song and a title for the other song at the front page. The cover is very simple, it is in leather bound with threads that can be seen on the back of the book. At the end can be seen another page that looks like a title page during the passage of Agamemnon. I think that this book and translation was created for the passion of translating, or maybe for a personal use.
